Three men have been sentenced to prison for their involvement in a spree of burglaries and thefts across Essex and Hertfordshire, which included ripping a cash machine off the wall of a Home Bargains shop using a stolen JCB forklift.
Shane Hadderton, 36, Marvin Usher, 33, and Deividas Fiodorovas, 36, were sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court last Thursday after pleading guilty to various charges related to their crimes, which took place over several days in April 2024.
A crime spree across Essex and Hertfordshire
The trio embarked on a series of high-value crimes, beginning on April 7, 2024, when they stole a pick-up truck and a JCB telescopic forklift from separate properties on Clacton Road in Little Horsley. Around 2am that same night, the stolen vehicles were used in a ram-raid robbery at a Home Bargains store in Harwich.
Using the JCB, the men managed to rip an ATM off the wall and load it onto the truck. The machine, which was damaged beyond repair during the heist, was later discovered at a nearby golf club less than a mile away. Miraculously, the cash machine still contained £55,000 in cash.
Additional burglary incidents
The crime spree also included multiple burglaries targeting homes in the region. On April 1, the men broke into a house on Oakley Road, Harwich, forcing entry through the back door. Thousands of pounds worth of cash and tools were stolen, along with a Ford Ranger and a Land Rover.
On April 23, another burglary took place at a property in Nancy Blackett Avenue, Walton, where jewellery worth more than £20,000 was stolen after entry was forced through the back door. The victim had been away for just 25 minutes when the crime occurred.
In the final burglary of the spree, on April 24, a victim was held in their bathroom while the burglars, armed with a crowbar, ransacked the home in Royston, Hertfordshire. More than £120,000 worth of watches, jewellery, and other valuables were stolen.
Arrest and charges
The men were arrested in May 2024, and all three were charged with two counts of conspiracy to burgle and one count of conspiracy to steal.
Fiodorovas, of Howard Road, Royston, pleaded guilty to all charges, including his role in stealing the cash machine, the burglaries of the homes, and the theft of the JCB.
Hadderton, from Glenway Close, Maldon, admitted to driving vehicles to and from the burglaries in Walton and Royston but denied entering any of the properties.
Usher, from London Way, Royston, pleaded guilty to the conspiracy to steal the cash machine and his involvement in stealing the vehicles but denied being involved in the home burglaries.
Sentencing
At the hearing, the court sentenced the men as follows:
- Fiodorovas was sentenced to six years and eight months in prison.
- Hadderton was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison.
- Usher was sentenced to two years and five months in prison.
Impact on victims
After the sentencing, Detective Inspector Frazer Low from Essex Police released a statement highlighting the broader impact of the crimes:
“The impact on the business was financially significant, but the impact on the burglary victims extends well beyond the value of the items lost. Holding one of the victims in the bathroom of the Royston property while carrying out a burglary, armed with a crowbar, shows the men responsible put their own financial gain over everything else.”
DI Low added that while the sentences would remove the criminals from society, the victims would now be able to begin the difficult process of recovery.
“They are now out of harm’s way, and I hope the victims of these deplorable crimes can begin to process and recover from them,” he said.
The case has sparked renewed calls for increased security measures to prevent similar crimes and for greater accountability for those who prey on vulnerable individuals and businesses.
