Have you contributed to environmental sustainability? If so, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has launched an exclusive Blue Visa, a 10-year residency permit aimed at individuals making significant contributions to environmental protection and sustainability.
The first phase of the Blue Visa initiative was announced during the World Governments Summit 2025 in Dubai, held from February 11 to 13. The programme is being implemented by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, in collaboration with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP).
Aiming for a greener future
The Blue Visa recognises sustainability leaders and innovators who have played a pivotal role in environmental conservation. Speaking to Emirates News Agency (WAM), Dr Amna Bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, highlighted the significance of the initiative.
“This initiative aims to leverage their contributions to achieve ambitious national goals and build a sustainable future for the people of the UAE and the world.”
The move is in line with the UAE’s commitment to promoting sustainability and reinforcing its position as a global leader in climate action.
Who is eligible for the Blue Visa?
In the initial phase, 20 prominent sustainability leaders and innovators will be awarded the 10-year Blue Visa. The programme is open to individuals who have made substantial contributions to environmental protection, including:
✅ Members of international organisations and companies focused on sustainability
✅ Associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) dedicated to environmental causes
✅ Winners of global awards in environmental work
✅ Distinguished activists and researchers in sustainability
Both UAE-based and international applicants can apply, as the visa covers contributions made both within and outside the country. Individuals may apply directly via the ICP or be nominated by UAE authorities.
How to apply for the Blue Visa
The application process is fully digital, allowing government agencies in the sustainability sector to submit applications online through the ICP platform. The electronic application system is designed to ensure a smooth and efficient process for eligible candidates.

The Blue Visa is available at a nominal cost, with the following fee structure:
💰 Request Fee: 100 AED (Approx. ₹2,400)
💰 Issue Fee: 100 AED (Approx. ₹2,400)

A new addition to UAE’s long-term residency programmes
The Blue Visa expands the UAE’s existing long-term residency options, which already include:
🟡 The Golden Visa (10 years): Introduced in 2019, the Golden Visa is offered to investors, entrepreneurs, scientists, outstanding students, and humanitarian pioneers.
🟢 The Green Visa (5 years): Launched in 2022, this visa is available to skilled professionals, freelancers, investors, and entrepreneurs.
Unlike standard UAE residency visas, which are typically valid for two years, these long-term visas aim to attract and retain top global talent across various sectors.
UAE strengthens its commitment to sustainability
The launch of the Blue Visa reflects the UAE’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainability and green innovation. It comes after the country hosted COP28 in Dubai in 2023, further solidifying its commitment to tackling climate change.
By offering a 10-year residency programme, the UAE is rewarding individuals who have dedicated their efforts to environmental conservation, while also encouraging further innovation in sustainable development.
With the Blue Visa now in place, eco-conscious professionals, researchers, and activists have a unique opportunity to contribute to the UAE’s vision of a greener future while benefiting from long-term residency in one of the world’s most dynamic nations.
