‘Spending my birthday filled with love and gratitude,’ he wrote. ‘Wishing you all the same, today & every day!’
Legendary singer Michael Bolton has shared a heartwarming family photo following his brain cancer diagnosis and surgery, offering fans a glimpse into his recovery journey.
Bolton, who turned 72 on Wednesday, posted a touching picture with his children and grandchildren on Facebook, expressing his appreciation for the love and support surrounding him.
The Grammy-winning singer, who is undergoing treatment following his diagnosis, was seen celebrating his birthday in the company of loved ones, tucking into a slice of cake and surrounded by festive decorations.
“Spending my birthday filled with love and gratitude,” Bolton captioned the image. “Wishing you all the same, today & every day!”
The photo featured his daughters, Holly and Taryn, both of whom he shares with his ex-wife, Maureen McGuire. His third daughter, Isa, was not in the picture.
Health struggles and concert cancellations
Bolton first revealed his brain cancer diagnosis in January 2024, explaining that he had undergone emergency surgery after a tumour was discovered just before the holidays.
“I want to start by wishing everyone a very happy and healthy new year!” Bolton wrote in his initial statement. “I also want to share that 2023 ended up presenting me with some very unexpected challenges.”
“Just before the holidays, it was discovered that I had a brain tumour, which required immediate surgery. Thanks to my incredible medical team, the surgery was a success.”
Since then, the How Am I Supposed to Live Without You singer has been prioritising his recovery, resulting in the cancellation of multiple concerts, including his much-anticipated London show at the O2 Arena on 5 July, where Bonnie Tyler was set to be a special guest.
Despite the cancellations, Bolton reassured fans that all tickets would be automatically refunded and expressed deep gratitude for their continued support.
“Thank you for all your love and positive energy over this past year. I am so grateful to have the most supportive fans in the world.”
An iconic career spanning decades
Michael Bolton rose to fame in the mid-1980s, though he initially started his career in the 1970s as a hard rock singer. His breakthrough came with the release of his 1987 album, The Hunger, which saw him shift towards a softer, more soulful sound.
However, it was his 1989 album, Soul Provider, that truly catapulted him into international stardom. The album featured hits such as Soul Provider and How Am I Supposed to Live Without You, solidifying Bolton’s status as one of the most recognisable voices in the music industry.
With a career spanning over five decades, Bolton has sold more than 75 million records worldwide, won two Grammy Awards, and collaborated with some of the biggest names in the industry.
A message of hope and resilience
Despite his health challenges, Bolton remains optimistic about his recovery. In a health update shared in March 2024, he reassured fans that he was “healing well” and making steady progress.
His latest birthday post serves as a testament to his positive spirit, as he continues to surround himself with family, love, and gratitude during this difficult time.
As fans across the world send their well wishes, Bolton’s message remains clear—despite life’s unexpected hurdles, he remains thankful, hopeful, and deeply appreciative of the unwavering support from those around him.
