Reform UK row over suspended MP rupert lowe takes new turn
A lawyer assigned to investigate bullying allegations against Reform MP Rupert Lowe has denied informing him that there is ‘no credible evidence’ to support the claims.
This marks the latest twist in a turbulent few days for Nigel Farage’s party, which has now severed ties with one of its five Members of Parliament. Lowe’s suspension came just a day after he launched a scathing critique of Farage in an interview with the Daily Mail, describing him as a ‘messianic figure’ who ‘has to learn to delegate’.
Reform UK announced on Friday that Lowe had lost the party whip, meaning he no longer represents the party in Parliament, following allegations that he had made threats of violence against chairman Zia Yusuf.
The Metropolitan police confirmed they are investigating whether the MP had made ‘verbal threats’.
Labour minister Mike Kane has also recalled a confrontation with Lowe in the House of Commons before Christmas, an incident that Farage referenced in an article for The Daily Telegraph.
Meanwhile, a lawyer appointed by Reform is investigating additional allegations that Lowe bullied members of his office staff. All accusations have been strongly denied by Lowe, who took to social media yesterday to claim they were ‘maliciously concocted to drag my name through the mud with zero credible evidence against me’.
Responding to his former party colleague Lee Anderson, Lowe also asserted that the lawyer – a KC (King’s Counsel) – had ‘confirmed again and again’ that Reform had not provided substantial evidence against him. However, speaking to BBC News, the lawyer refuted this assertion.
She told the broadcaster: ‘I have not expressed either “dismay” or “shock” at any time as to the process.
‘Nor have I said “there is zero credible evidence against [Lowe]”, let alone said this “repeatedly”.’
The lawyer was not named, but the BBC reported that it had verified her credentials.
In response to the article on the social media platform X, Lowe wrote: ‘I have spoken with the KC at length, on the phone and through messages.
‘I’ve got to know her over the last week, and she has been very helpful, and is a charming lady who is trying to do her job in the very difficult position that Reform has put her in.
‘To suggest that I have not “cooperated” is an outright lie by Lee Anderson and Reform. I have been in discussions with my legal team this afternoon, and this will be followed by legal action in due course.
‘I will not have my name dragged through the mud as part of a political assassination because I dared to question Nigel Farage.’
This dispute comes as Reform UK continues to surge in multiple opinion polls, with the party now consistently outperforming the Conservatives among the general public.
