Detectives urge public to help locate key evidence in murder investigation
Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing of 34-year-old Troy Ramsundar in Brixton have issued a fresh appeal for information, urging the public to help locate a backpack believed to belong to the suspect.
Emergency services were called to Brixton Road at around 5.10am on Thursday, 20 March, following reports of a man suffering a stab wound. Despite the efforts of paramedics, Mr Ramsundar tragically died at the scene. His family are being supported by specialist officers as the murder investigation continues.
The Met’s Specialist Crime Command, which is leading the investigation, has now released images of a blue Herschel rucksack with brown strapping and a pink or orange striped lining. Officers believe the suspect may have discarded the bag in or near Brockwell Park and are urging anyone who may have seen it to come forward.
Key movements of the suspect
According to Met Police, the suspect was seen entering Brockwell Park from the Brixton Water Lane entrance at 5.15am on the morning of the attack. He is believed to have remained in the park for approximately 30 minutes before exiting near the junction of Norwood Road and Dulwich Road.
Police are also searching for other items of clothing that may have been discarded, including:
- A dark jacket
- A light-coloured hooded top (possibly grey)
- A dark face mask
- Dark trousers
- Dark, shiny shoes
- Gloves, which may be red or brown
Officers have urged the public, particularly those who live or work in the area, to check gardens, bins, and any CCTV or dashcam footage that may have captured relevant details.
Appeal for bus stop witnesses
Police are also keen to speak to anyone who was at bus stop Q on Brixton Road between 4.30am and 5.15am on Thursday, 20 March.
This stop is served by the following bus routes: 2, 3, 196, 415, 432, N2 & N3.
Detectives believe Mr Ramsundar may have been selling packets of crisps in the area that evening, including to people at the bus stop. They are asking anyone who interacted with him to come forward, no matter how small the detail may seem.
Detective’s statement
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, who is leading the investigation, said:
“My team continue to support Troy’s family, who are inconsolable and desperately trying to understand why he was killed.
“While we are making significant progress in our investigation, we are still appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone who has seen the backpack or its contents.
“Did you see Troy that evening? We know he was selling crisps in the area and may have spoken to people at the bus stop. Even the smallest detail could help us piece together what happened.”
He added that officers would be conducting a witness appeal at 4am tomorrow (Thursday, 3 April) in Brixton Road, marking two weeks since Troy’s death.
“We will be out speaking to people at the same time and place where this terrible crime happened. Please, if you have any information, come forward and help us bring justice for Troy and his family.”
