Serbia, May 28, 2024:
Serbia has been hit by bad weather, while adverse winds and flash floods have affected many country areas. As a result of the harsh weather, some parts have no light, others have been closed off, and many inhabitants were forced out because they couldn’t stay home anymore due to evacuation orders issued in response to flooding risk assessments carried out downstream.
Reports summarized by local newspapers and the Serbian Ministry of Interiors reveal that most of the destruction has been witnessed in Belgrade, the capital city of Serbia, and other central parts. The electricity service is cut in thousands of homes because several trees and power lines fell due to increasing wind.
People evacuated using boats after the Red Cross declared three regions disaster zones resulting from the flooding because the wind damaged much and massive rains caused flash floods in lowlands and near rivers.
Serbian municipalities that had been severely affected were declared in a state of emergency to enable them to get more support and go on working. In a statement issued, citizens were requested to watch out and remain indoors unless it is essential to go outside and not forget about caution. Whenever they spot any hitch or damage, they should quickly contact responsible authorities.
With the continuation of a weather system in the affected areas, officials continue to be on the lookout for any new disturbances within the region. It is essential that the general population stay updated, follow what their local authorities tell them, and be secure during this period characterized by adversities.
