American pop sensation Chappell Roan has made history on the UK Singles Chart, replacing herself at number one with her latest release, The Giver.
The 27-year-old singer-songwriter, whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, ventured into the country music genre for the first time with this track, which has now dethroned her previous hit Pink Pony Club from the top spot.
A personal connection to country music
Roan took to Instagram to share her excitement, revealing how deeply connected she feels to country music:
“We’ve never done a country song, and I have such a special place in my heart for country music. I grew up listening to it every morning and afternoon on my school bus and had it swirling around me at bonfires, grocery stores, and karaoke bars.”
Roan’s shift into country marks a new chapter in her already successful career, proving her versatility as an artist.
A meteoric rise to fame
After years of building a dedicated fanbase, Roan skyrocketed to stardom in 2024 when her song Good Luck, Babe! went viral following her performance at Coachella.
Her unique blend of theatrical pop, powerful vocals, and heartfelt storytelling quickly made her a household name. Roan’s stage name is a tribute to her late grandfather, Dennis K. Chappell—she combined his surname with a word from his favourite song, Strawberry Roan.
The UK’s top five singles
With The Giver now at number one, this week’s UK Top Five sees a slight reshuffle:
- Chappell Roan – The Giver (New Entry)
- Alex Warren – Ordinary (Steady at No. 2)
- Chappell Roan – Pink Pony Club (Down from No. 1)
- Doechii – Anxiety (New Entry)
- Playboi Carti – EVIL J0RDAN (First ever Top Five single)
Jade soars into the top ten
Elsewhere, Jade, the Best Pop Act winner at the BRIT Awards, has achieved her highest-charting solo single to date.
Her song FUFN has reached number six, marking a major milestone in her solo career after rising to fame with Little Mix, the chart-topping girl group that included Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jesy Nelson.
Roan’s continued success
With her chart dominance and growing influence, Roan is solidifying her status as one of the most exciting artists in the industry today. Her ability to seamlessly transition between genres while maintaining her signature sound has only fuelled anticipation for what she’ll do next.
As The Giver continues to reign supreme, fans and critics alike are eager to see whether Roan will extend her chart-topping streak—or even replace herself again.
