The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) announced on Thursday that construction on the highly anticipated Dwarka Integrated Stadium is set to begin by the end of 2024. This announcement comes almost two years after the project was inaugurated by former Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena in September 2022. According to the DDA, the stadium is slated to be completed and operational by September 2027, marking a major milestone in Delhi’s sports infrastructure development.
A public-Private partnership for a sporting hub
The Dwarka Stadium will be developed under a public-private partnership, with the DDA collaborating with real estate firm Omaxe. The project aims to create a world-class multi-sport facility in Delhi, providing a platform for both professional and recreational athletes. The state-of-the-art facility will cover 50.4 acres in Dwarka’s Sector 19B and will include dedicated cricket and football stadiums with a seating capacity of 30,000 spectators, making it one of the largest sporting arenas in the capital.
In addition to the stadiums, the complex will offer hospitality services, enhancing the visitor experience and making it a potential venue for large-scale events and international tournaments. Omaxe, the real estate company responsible for the stadium’s construction, confirmed that all necessary approvals have been secured, and construction is expected to begin by December 2024.
Expansive sports facilities
Beyond the main stadiums, the Dwarka Integrated Stadium will boast an array of other sporting amenities, including facilities for tennis, badminton, swimming, squash, and table tennis. These facilities will cater to an additional 2,000 spectators, providing a versatile venue capable of hosting multiple sports and events simultaneously. The design of the stadium reflects a vision to create an inclusive, multi-purpose sports hub for the city, encouraging wider participation in sports at both competitive and recreational levels.
Clubhouse and public accessibility
A key feature of the new stadium complex will be a clubhouse offering memberships to 3,000 individuals. Members will enjoy unlimited access to all sporting facilities without any extra charges. Meanwhile, non-members will be able to use the stadium’s services on a pay-and-play basis, ensuring broad public accessibility. This model aims to balance exclusive access for regular users with flexible options for casual visitors.
The entire development is based on a 99-year lease, ensuring long-term availability of the facilities for future generations. With the inclusion of hospitality services and spectator capacity, the stadium is poised to become a premier destination for both athletes and sports fans alike.
DDA’s commitment to expanding sports infrastructure
The Dwarka Integrated Stadium is the latest addition to DDA’s portfolio of sporting projects, which currently includes 17 operational facilities across the city. In addition to the stadium, the DDA is also constructing India’s longest 18-hole golf course in Dwarka Sector 24, set to open by October 2024. These projects reflect the authority’s commitment to enhancing the sporting infrastructure in the capital, providing world-class facilities for residents and visitors.
The Dwarka Stadium is expected to become a significant landmark in Delhi, contributing to the city’s growth as a sporting and event-hosting hub.
