Katie Price has opened up about fears she may be entering the perimenopausal stage, revealing that she’s been waking up to a “soaking wet bed” and suffering from persistent brain fog — symptoms that have left her both confused and concerned.
The 46-year-old mum-of-five shared her worries on the latest episode of The Katie Price Podcast, where she sat down with her younger sister, Sophie, 35, for a frank discussion about her health.
Price, who suffered a miscarriage earlier this year following a surprise pregnancy over the Christmas period with boyfriend JJ Slater, explained that in the months since, she’s begun experiencing what she believes could be symptoms of the early stages of menopause.
“I’m getting the brain fog going through the pre-menostal [menopausal] or whatever it’s called, and I wake up and my bed is soaking wet. I hate it,” she admitted. “I keep falling asleep. This CBD, I take two drops a night and honestly I’m having the best sleep, but I’m not watching anything. It works for me.”
The TV personality was referring to cannabidiol (CBD), a substance derived from the cannabis plant often marketed for its potential in managing anxiety, sleep disorders, and chronic pain. However, Price recently courted controversy after making unfounded claims suggesting CBD could shrink tumours, leading to backlash over the promotion of unproven medical benefits.
Despite the restful sleep aided by CBD, she says she’s still unsettled by her unexplained symptoms and is planning to get a blood test to investigate whether she might be entering perimenopause.
“So I’m just going to get my blood test because maybe I’m having an early menopause, I don’t know how it all works, but I’m still having my periods,” she added.
Perimenopause typically begins during a woman’s 40s but can start as early as the late 30s. It’s a transitional phase leading up to menopause, during which oestrogen levels fluctuate and begin to decline. This hormonal rollercoaster can bring with it a raft of physical and psychological symptoms, including hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, poor concentration, anxiety, vaginal dryness, and disrupted sleep.
In Price’s case, it’s the combination of brain fog and extreme night sweating that has sparked alarm bells. Experts say the duration of perimenopause can vary widely, lasting anywhere between a few months and up to 10 years.
“The bad news is, if this is perimenopause, it could be a long road,” Price quipped during her chat with Sophie, acknowledging how deeply the process can affect both body and mind. “It’s scary, isn’t it? Inside, my body is ageing — but on the outside, I still feel fresh.”
It’s not the first time the former glamour model has alluded to entering this phase of life. In a previous episode of her podcast, she spoke candidly about realising her age while watching boyband reunions and comparing herself to pop stars she grew up with.
“When Five are coming back and the Boyzone thing – did you see that? So we’re all looking so much older and I think, ‘They’re the same age as me,’ but I still don’t feel I’m old,” she said. “But I know I am because even my body inside is going through the menopause, so I’m not a young spring chicken, it doesn’t matter how young I think I look, what tracksuit I put on and whatever.”
Price added, somewhat humorously: “My body is old! It’s scary, isn’t it? Inside my body it is ageing, but the outside is fresh.”
As she awaits further medical checks, Price says she remains hopeful but is keen to speak more openly about women’s health and the reality of ageing — an area she believes is still shrouded in stigma.
