On Saturday, at Spantik peak in Shigar valley, a rescue team found the body of one of the two missing Japanese climbers. While the search for other missing climber is still going on, stated in Dawn News.
On Monday, two climbers – Ryuseki Hiraoka and Atsushi Taguchi were climbing in Alpine style and reached camp 2 which was situated at 5,300m altitude, between Shigar and Nagar districts of Gilgit-Baltistan. But when other team reached the camp, next day, both the climbers were not there. Team instantly returned to the base camp and informed officials.
The rescue team finally found one of the two bodies. Unfortunately, the other body is still missing.
This news was confirmed to Dawn News by Shigar Deputy Commissioner Waliullah Falahi “The nine-member rescue team recovered one climber and kept it at [a] safe place. Now they [are] searching for [the] other climber,” he said.
“The rescue teams are doing everything possible to support the search operation and ensure a swift and safe conclusion,” said a spokesperson for the Shigar DC’s office. “We understand the difficulty of the situation and are working closely with the Japanese authorities to ensure a successful outcome.”
Karin Shah Nizari speculates that they were in Alpine style and got hit by an avalanche. He stated to Dawn News that “The missing Japanese climbers were attempting in Alpine style, climbing in the area on the slopes […] sometimes needs fixed ropes,”
“These slopes are unstable after getting 4 inches of fresh snow, [which] makes it deadly. Spantik peak, like other Karakorum peaks, [is] prone to unstable weather,”
He also said to Dawn news that Pakistani mountaineers were paying for their safety.
