British actor Robert Pattinson has revealed that becoming a father has made life “more fun”. The 38-year-old and his partner, singer Suki Waterhouse, 33, welcomed their first child last March.
Speaking at the London premiere of his latest film, the dark sci-fi thriller Mickey 17, Pattinson reflected on how fatherhood has changed his outlook. He admitted that he had expected to become “less danger-prone” after the birth of his daughter but instead found that the experience has been “very joyful”.
“If someone told me I was going to die in a week, I’d be like, ‘What? I want to spend some more time with my kid’,” he said, before jokingly adding, “That’s a very deep answer.”
A Return to Sci-Fi with Mickey 17
Pattinson is starring in the highly anticipated Mickey 17, the latest film by Oscar-winning director Bong Joon-ho, best known for Parasite.
The film is adapted from Edward Ashton’s 2022 novel Mickey 7 and follows the story of a financially struggling man who signs up as an “expendable” crew member on a dangerous mission to colonise an ice world. Every time he dies, he is cloned, with his memories intact, raising deep existential questions about identity, mortality, and the value of human life.
While critics and audiences have yet to see the full film, production notes and teasers released online suggest it will offer thought-provoking insights into life and memory, typical of Bong Joon-ho’s distinctive storytelling style.
Fans Brave the Cold for a Glimpse of Pattinson
At the world premiere at London’s Leicester Square, excited fans—many of them young women—braved near-freezing temperatures to catch a glimpse of the star, widely adored as “R-Patz”.
Mia, 23, and Ellie, 22, said they had waited for hours in the cold to see him. “We’ve been fans for years,” Mia explained enthusiastically.
Another dedicated admirer, Jia, carried a fluorescent sign reading, “I love you R-Patz” in the hope of capturing the actor’s attention.
From Heartthrob to Hollywood Star
Pattinson rose to worldwide fame for his role as the brooding vampire Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga, starring opposite Kristen Stewart. However, his fanbase first emerged when he played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Over the years, Pattinson has successfully distanced himself from his early heartthrob image, choosing roles in critically acclaimed films such as The Lighthouse, Good Time, Tenet, and The Batman.
When asked whether he felt he had finally shaken off his Twilight image, Pattinson responded thoughtfully.
“I think every part is hopefully still a part of you,” he said. “It’s insane to me that people still talk about it. I mean, Twilight was a long time ago. And the fact that people are still talking about it means we did something right.”
What’s Next for Pattinson?
As Mickey 17 gears up for release, Pattinson continues to solidify his reputation as a versatile and daring actor. With fatherhood now playing a key role in his life, his next steps in both his personal and professional journeys will undoubtedly be watched closely by fans and critics alike.
