STOCKHOLM: A townlet in Sweden was doused with emails and phone calls from Pakistan, India, the United States and Australia after proposing land at less than 10 euro cents ($0.11) per square metre, its administrator claimed on Monday, reported in Dawn News.
The administrator of Gotene had to fire sales for a short time after the provincial administration was overpowered by demands for plots.
“We launched this campaign in mid-April. It was a bit of a crazy idea, but also a joke to be honest. It was a marketing operation,” claimed aid Johan Mansson, administrator of Gotene, a townlet of around 5,000 individuals.
A regional television news previous month initiated a snowball impact. Many Swedish media gathered the report, a video was published on TikTok, and millions of individuals uncovered Gotene and its inexpensive plots.
A few days afterwards, it evolved into “a global success”, stated the administrator, when two English-language media portals obscured the report.
“We have had interest from Europe, Asia — mainly India and Pakistan — as well as the United States, Australia, and even South America,” claimed Mansson.
With this promotion ad, “we have succeeded in putting Gotene on the world map”. Deals will continue on Aug 7 along with the auction of land.
Thirty plots of land, dumped for 10 years, were set up for deals at one Swedish krona ($0.095) per square metre (10.7 square feet).
By purchasing a plot, the buyer reserves to construct a house for 2 years. This applies supplemental costs, involving the building receipt at 30,000 kronor, reference fees for water at 170,000 kronor, power supply at 40,000 kronor, and internet at 30,000 kronor.
A periodic weeks after the promotion ad began, Gotene operated to market three plots.
