This article appreciates the efforts that Saudi Arabia and Jordan have brought together to provide humanitarian requirements to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, despite closures of the Israeli border, through airlifting 30 tons of ready-to-eat food, as part of a larger effort to reduce the suffering of the people in Gaza.
Saudi Arabia and Jordan have come together to airdrop 30 tons of ready-to-eat food into the Gaza Strip, providing necessary aid to blockade Palestinians. The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) and the Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO) collaborated with the Jordanian Hashemite Armed Forces to continue the operation.
The food supplies are prepared for immediate consumption without heating, and KSrelief has been using parachutes to cross Israeli border closures that have prevented humanitarian help from reaching those who are in need. Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah, KSrelief’s director general, was summoned for the opening of border crossings, noting that airlift is not a retainable solution given the large number of people requiring aid.
KSrelief’s campaign for Palestinians has collected over $184 million in fiscal donations to date. The Kingdom has also deployed an air and sea bridge to deliver aid, with fifty-four planes and 8 ships operating. However, even a temporary seaport made by the US military has been affected by stormy seas.
The dispute in Gaza has had devastating outcomes, displacing over two million Palestinians, resulting in over 38,000 deaths, and causing widespread destruction to infrastructure. This has led to healthcare challenges, with an increase in communicable diseases, especially among children, and brought the complete educational system in Gaza to a dead-stop, according to the United Nations.
The airlift operation is a valuable effort to support the people of Gaza, and KSrelief continues to work towards providing humanitarian help to those affected by the conflict.
