Guru Randhawa, the sensation of Punjabi music, is all set to don a new hat – that of a judge on the iconic singing reality show, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. As he gears up for this exciting new chapter, Randhawa opens up about his journey, his views on independence in music, and his upcoming projects.
Randhawa’s excitement about joining Sa Re Ga Ma Pa is palpable. “This show is a new chapter in my life. To judge such a legendary show is a big deal,” he confesses. However, he’s quick to add that he doesn’t believe in being strict with contestants. Instead, he aims to provide constructive feedback and guidance.
As a singer-songwriter who has written and composed his own music, Randhawa emphasizes the importance of independent music in the industry. “I have always done independent music from day one,” he states proudly. “I am not dependent on Bollywood, nor am I someone who waits for calls or to be offered a singing part in movies.” This approach has allowed him to maintain creative control and connect directly with his audience.
Randhawa views his Sa Re Ga Ma Pa associates, especially his co-judges Sachin Sanghvi, Jigar Saraiya, Sachet Tandon, and Parampara Thakur, as family. He shares, “I have worked with Sachet-Parampara on the single, Mehndi wale haath, and they gave a song to my film, Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay [2024]. I have worked with Sachin-Jigar on an entire album, Arjun Patiala [2019].” This camaraderie will undoubtedly make the judging experience more enjoyable.
Apart from his judging duties and film shoots, Randhawa is also gearing up for a nationwide music tour, set to kick off in October. “We are doing a tour all over India from October,” he reveals. “Big arenas have been shortlisted; the rest will be conducted on grounds. We are [performing at] IGI Stadium in Delhi, Gandhi Maidaan in Patna, Guwahati, and Indore. It’s going to be a fun tour. We are bringing some great acts on stage.”
Randhawa’s advice to contestants on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa is simple yet profound. “Everyone should be independent. Any contestant coming here should eventually aim to become independent.” He emphasizes that success isn’t solely defined by winning the show. “Whether somebody wins the show or not, what they do after the show is what really matters.”
As Randhawa embarks on this new journey, he admits to feeling nervous about interviews. Despite his confidence on stage, he confesses to being camera-shy when faced with questions. However, his passion for music and dedication to nurturing new talent shine through, making him an ideal fit for Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.
With Guru Randhawa on board, fans can expect an exciting and inspiring season of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. His commitment to independent music and artist development will undoubtedly make a lasting impact on the show’s contestants and audience alike.
