Khalil Jibran was associated with Khyber News and a former president of the Landi Kotal press club. He had previously received threats from terrorists. But on Wednesday some unknown assailants pulled Khalil Jibran out of his car near his home and shot him.
Khalil Jibran was travelling with his friends, after attending a dinner party in the Mazreena locality of Sultan Khel when their car was stopped by armed men on Tuesday men, according to statements.
His friends said that the gunman stated to them that they were not the targets. Meanwhile, they pulled the journalist out of the car and started shooting at him. This resulted in Khalil Jibran being killed on the spot.
After they were gone, the journalist’s lifeless body lay on the ground for nearly an hour, as police arrived at the scene and sent his body to hospital, as per the locals. The doctors at the District Headquarters Hospital in Landi Kotal declared him dead and stated that the journalist’s body bore 19 bullet wounds, and his arm was also fractured.
However, the police said that they responded promptly to the shooting incident as soon as they were notified and an FIR was filed.
The Journalist’s funeral prayers were offered at his ancestral village today. A large number of locals, journalists, political figures and social workers attended it.
Government officials also expressed their grief over the incident
“Every effort must be made to bring the killers of Khalil Jibran to justice,” said President Asif Ali Zardari
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered authorities to arrest these unknown assailants.
KP Governor Faisal Kundi extended his condolences to the deceased’s family while offering prayers.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari called for the immediate arrest of the culprits
