Kusha Kapila, the popular social media content creator-turned-actress, has opened up about the personal turmoil following her recent divorce from Zorawar Singh Ahluwalia. In a candid interview with Fever FM, Kapila shared how she navigated the aftermath of their split and the societal pressures that accompanied it.
Kapila and Ahluwalia, who had been together for several years before marrying in 2017, announced their separation last year. Since then, Kapila has largely remained silent on the subject, but she recently broke her silence to reveal the challenges she faced.
“I completely shut myself off from opinions or anything related to the divorce. I didn’t have the bandwidth for it,” Kapila said. “So I am sure my mother can speak very clearly about it.” She explained that her mother had to handle a significant amount of public scrutiny and gossip, given her own social circles and interactions.
Kapila highlighted how societal attitudes often burden women during difficult times. “Society is unkind to women, and my mother had to go through that. She faced opinions and conversations in her social communities, whether she was at the temple or the park,” Kapila shared. “This is the reality of where we live and the times we live in. As much as we hope for progress, some things remain unchanged.”
The actress elaborated on her decision to distance herself from public opinions, acknowledging the harshness of social media. “The other aspect is that you can’t control how people react online, especially when you’ve shared your life with them. You can alter how you share your life moving forward, but you can’t pick and choose the reactions,” Kapila said. “It’s unfair and unkind, and assumptions will be made. At some point, you have to pull back and focus on the people who truly know and support you.”
Kapila’s reflections come after a tumultuous period in which she felt overwhelmed by the media’s and public’s responses to her personal life. She recounted a particularly distressing moment when she was forced to go public with the news of her divorce. “I was terrified the day I had to announce it. A media publication threatened to make the news public, which is why I had to go ahead and share it myself,” she revealed.
Throughout this period, Kapila’s father and ex-husband Zorawar were her sources of support, helping her manage the challenges that came with public scrutiny. “During that time, my father and Zorawar stood by me,” she noted. “It was a difficult moment, but their support was invaluable.”
Kapila and Ahluwalia’s relationship had been a topic of interest for many of their followers, and the news of their separation came as a shock to many. Despite the difficulties, Kapila has chosen to focus on the future and the people who truly matter to her. “The people who will be there during your good times, celebrations, wins, losses, and hopefully until the end are the ones you should care about,” she said. “The rest is just noise.”
Kapila’s decision to speak out now reflects her journey towards healing and acceptance. By sharing her experience, she hopes to shed light on the often-unspoken struggles faced by individuals going through similar situations, and to emphasize the importance of focusing on genuine support and understanding amidst societal pressures.
As Kapila continues to navigate her personal and professional life, her openness about these challenges offers a reminder of the complexities and resilience involved in managing public scrutiny and personal hardship.
