Whoever accomplishes false decisions in the selection committee will also be held accountable, says the PCB chief, reported in The International News.
LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday, without considering any names, claimed that “Former cricketers head coach Gary Kirsten will decide Babar Azam’s future as national side’s captain.”
Conversing with reporters in Lahore, the PCB chairman expressed: “There is, however, no decision taken so far related to Babar Azam.”
Naqvi’s comments come in the backlash of extreme critics being challenged by the Green Shirts over their bad performance in the previously concluded T20 World Cup 2024 where the national side was removed as they even yielded to build it to the Super Eight stage.
The Green Shirts team not only lost matches against strong teams like india, etc, but also lost matches against weak teams like Ireland, Canada etc.
The PCB chief expressed to reporters, “No decision should be taken when a person is angry as steps taken in haste are mostly counterproductive.”
“I’m only speaking to those former cricketers who are interested in the betterment of Pakistan cricket,” he counted further.
The previous month, the top officers had claimed that a “major surgery” was demanded because of the nation side bad performance.
“People are asking about surgery but one should not take any decision while you are angry. Hasty decisions can prove to be harmful more often than not.”
Naqvi also didn’t look too overwhelmed with the decision-making of the selection panel.
“Whoever made wrong decisions in the selection committee will also be held accountable,” he expressed.
The PCB chief also claimed, “He has called head coach Gary Kirsten and assistant coach Azhar Mahmood for a discussion on the Pakistan team’s performance.”
“Kisten has also submitted a detailed report on the Pakistan team’s performance in the T20 World Cup,” Naqvi commented.
Naqvi accepted that he is also watching “grouping and politics” in Pakistan cricket time.
He also admitted that players’ insertion in the national side will be completely connected to performance in domestic cricket.
