Nelly Korda claims she will not be able to defend her title at the Ladies European Tour event outside of London next week because she was attacked by a dog in Seattle. The event is sponsored by Aramco.
Nelly Korda, an American golfer, announced on Friday that she has withdrew from an upcoming competition due to a dog bite, which is only the most recent in a string of unfortunate events.
“I regret to announce that I must withdraw from next week’s Ladies European Tour tournament in London,” Korda said on her Instagram story. “On Saturday in Seattle, I was bitten by a dog and need time to receive treatment and recover fully.”
The world No. 1 expressed regret to supporters and the organizers for being unable to attend the June 28–30 LET Aramco Team Series competition at the Centurion Club in Hemel Hempstead, England.
“Thank you for your understanding, and I look forward to returning to the courseShe went on.
Korda had an incredible start to the season, winning a record-tying five straight LPGA Tour championships. However, she has struggled recently, missing the cut in her last three tournaments.
Aramco Team Series-London was won by Korda the previous year. Prior to traveling to France for the fourth of five LPGA majors this year—the Amundi Evian Championship—she had intended to defend her title at Centurion Golf Club.
According to ESPN Stats & Information, she posted a career-worst 81 in the second round of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, missing the cut.
After that round, Korda told reporters, “It’s just golf lately for me.”
“There are no words for how I’m playing right now. I’m just going to go home and try to reset… A lot went my way at the beginning of the year, and I’m just giving it back.”
