Bollywood actress Preity Zinta recently shared her challenging journey with IVF treatment before she and her husband, Gene Goodenough, welcomed their twins, Jai and Gia, via surrogacy in 2021. In a candid interview, Preity revealed the emotional toll that the IVF cycles took on her, emphasizing the pressures women face due to the biological clock and balancing career and family.
Preity Zinta, known for her ever-smiling public persona, opened up about the difficulties of maintaining that image during her IVF treatment. In a conversation with Vogue India, the actress discussed how hard it was to stay positive during such a tough time. “I have good days and bad days just like everyone else. Sometimes it’s a struggle to always be happy-go-lucky in real life, especially when you’re going through a tough phase. I used to feel like that during my IVF cycles,” Preity admitted. She added, “It was very difficult to be smiley and nice all the time. Sometimes I just wanted to bang my head on the wall and cry or not talk to anybody.”
Her words shed light on the emotional and physical challenges many women face during fertility treatments, particularly in the public eye, where they are often expected to remain cheerful and composed.
The realities of the biological clock
When asked about her upcoming comeback film Lahore 1947, Preity touched upon the complexities women in the entertainment industry face regarding career and family. She acknowledged the reality of the biological clock and how it affects women’s decisions about their careers and personal lives. “It’s important to focus on career, but being a woman, one also needs to realise that life is not completely fair and there is no level playing ground as the biological clock is real,” Preity explained. She pointed out that while actors prioritize their craft and career, family is equally important, and balancing the two can be difficult.
Now that her twins are over two years old, Preity feels ready to return to work and is excited about her upcoming projects. She also reflected on how her journey into motherhood has shaped her decisions. In November 2021, Preity announced the birth of her twins on Instagram, sharing her joy with fans. “Gene & I are overjoyed & our hearts are filled with so much gratitude & with so much love as we welcome our twins Jai Zinta Goodenough & Gia Zinta Goodenough into our family,” she wrote.
Preity, who was last seen in the 2018 film Bhaiaji Superhit, will soon be back on the big screen in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lahore 1947, alongside Sunny Deol. The film, produced by Aamir Khan, marks her return to acting after several years focused on family.
