Team India, the T20 World Champions, Returns Home Real-time updates: In the wee hours of Thursday, the triumphant Indian team—which had won the Men’s T20 World Cup on June 29—finally touched down at the IGI Airport in New Delhi.
After a dramatic final in which they defeated South Africa by seven runs, the team captained by Rohit Sharma claimed their second T20 World Cup on Saturday at the Kensington Oval. However, Hurricane Beryl delayed their flight plans back home, leaving them stranded for three days.
Next, the BCCI scheduled a specially chartered Air India flight for the team, which they called ‘AIC24WC’ (Air India Champions 24 World Cup). Early on Wednesday morning, a Boeing 777 aircraft from Newark, New Jersey, touched down at Grantley Adams International Airport in Bridgetown.
At 4:50 a.m. local time, the special airplane carrying the Indian team support staff, players’ families, BCCI officials, and 22 traveling media people took off from Bridgetown.
The squad that won the T20 World Cup will fly into New Delhi, check into the ITC Maurya hotel, and then have breakfast with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg as part of a felicitation ceremony.
The victorious Indian squad is expected to take departure from New Delhi at 2:00 pm and land in Mumbai at 4:00 pm. The winning team will leave the National Centre for Performing Arts (NPCA) in Mumbai in an open bus, and they will participate in the victory parade from 5 to 7 p.m.
The open bus victory parade will go through Marine Drive and conclude at the Wankhede Stadium, allowing fans to have a glimpse of their favorite players who brought a major trophy home after 11 years. From 7 to 7:30 pm, there will be a small function for the victorious Indian team to be felicitated at the Wankhede Stadium, following which players will disperse to the hotel.
