Kevin Costner’s grandiose western franchise is taking a hiatus. The sequel to Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1, which was initially scheduled for release on August 16, has been pushed back to give consumers more time to explore the first episode, which opened in theaters on June 28.
A representative from New Line Cinema confirmed the announcement, underlining the importance of increasing fan engagement with the picture, which is also accessible on PVOD and streaming on MAX. So far, Horizon: An American Saga has earned less than $23.5 million worldwide.
This multi-part project is a passion project for Costner, who co-wrote, produced, directed, and appears in the picture, which takes place during the American Civil War. Despite its lengthy runtime and planned series, Costner remains optimistic, stating, “I make movies for people so that they won’t be bored.”
Costner has put $38 million of his own money into the franchise and is now filming the third sequel, which is part of a projected four-film series.
