The School Freedom Fund, a national PAC linked with the libertarian Club for Growth Action, is spending $3.6 million on five Tennessee legislative races. The idea is to support pro-voucher candidates while challenging incumbents such as Sen. Frank Niceley, R-Strawberry Plains, and Rep. Bryan Richey, who is vying for a state Senate seat in Maryville.
David McIntosh, president, said: “You can no longer call yourself a conservative if you oppose school freedom, and you should expect a very expensive primary that you’ll probably lose,”
“Following the recent failure of bold school freedom legislation in Tennessee because of Republican opposition, School Freedom Fund is making a major investment in five races.”
Following the collapse of school voucher legislation in Tennessee, the PAC is focusing on five critical races:
Oppose Bryan Richey in Senate District 2.
Oppose Frank Niceley in Senate District 8.
Support Jason Emert in House District 20.
Support Lee Reeves in House District 65.
Support Aron Maberry in House District 68.
The PAC, which previously spent nearly $4 million on Texas state contests, is heavily sponsored by Jeff Yass of Susquehanna International. Yass has contributed $5 million to the PAC this election season.
“The is the beginning of a school freedom movement putting parents — not bureaucrats — in control of their children’s education,” McIntosh said. “We are looking to replicate our results in the Texas primary where we defeated 10 anti-school freedom incumbents.”
