PPP – Pakistan Peoples Party proposed the amendment of increasing salaries and allowances of its members, which got approved by the National Assembly of Pakistan.
PPP’s Abdul Qadir Patel presented this amendment. This aims to enhance the benefits for parliamentarians and has been included in the Finance bill.
The travel allowance has been increased from Rs.10 per kilometre to Rs.25 per kilometre for assembly members. Similarly, unused annual airline tickets will now carry over to the following year instead of being cancelled, for parliament members.
This amendment faced various opposition from different quarters, but despite all this it was passed by majority votes.
The number of annual travel vouchers has also been increased from 25 to 30. Along with this, the responsibility for determining the salaries and allowances of parliament members has been shifted from the federal government to the finance committee of the respective house.
