Islamabad: The annual budget for the year 2024-2025 was meant to be announced on its scheduled date but before its announcement, one of the major parties – the Pakistan People’s Party PPP called out the Pakistan Muslim League PML-N Government for not taking their contribution at all in the making of Annual Budget.
This action of the government led the PPP to wonder if it still wanted their support.
On Tuesday: There was a meeting held of the Parliamentary committee in a meeting room of the National Assembly. This meeting was led by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari. During this meeting, PPP addressed their concerns regarding the annual budget.
After the meeting, Shazia Marri – who’s both a member of the National Assembly and Information Secretary – informed journalists about it.
With regards to Farmers, she addressed the concern over no Farmer relief from the government “We have to be accountable to our people. When the farmer does not get relief in [shape of] fertilizer, does not get relief on [purchase of] tractor and no one listens to them over electricity [issues], then all these concerns are valid,”
“The reservations of PPP are for the people of the entire country. We are a political party, we have an ideology and a manifesto, and we wanted to give our input in light of that,” she added.
Furthermore, she expressed whether the government wants PPP support or not. Do they want PPP to protest now by not giving significance to their collaborations and contributions?
“So does this government want the PPP to protest? Does the government want us to express our displeasure on the floor of the National Assembly? Now, this has to be seen by the government as it is in a responsible position. We did not expect this behaviour from Shehbaz Sharif. If this attitude doesn’t change, we will go to our people,”
Upon this, she was asked whether the PPP is or will be partying their way with the government, and she replied “Put this question to the government. We are having another meeting on Wednesday, before the budget, at 2.30 pm so we are giving the government another chance. We also have to cater to the needs of our constituencies, people and the implementation of our manifesto.”
In the conclusion of her conversation, she made it clear that PPP will be supporting PML-N despite this, but they are not going to be a part of the Federal Cabinet.
In regard to people’s concerns, she said the PPP chairman would have to make a decision.
She elaborated to journalists that, lawmakers informed the party leadership about problems in the constituencies and also expressed their concern over development projects
