A man has died after falling from the 755ft Heron Tower near Liverpool Street station, with City of London Police confirming the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
Emergency services rushed to 110 Bishopsgate, also known as Salesforce Tower, just before 2.10pm on Thursday after reports of a person falling from the 46-storey skyscraper in the heart of London’s financial district.
Despite the swift response from officers and paramedics, the man was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Major emergency services response
Images and footage shared online show a significant police presence in the area, with a blue forensic tent erected in the Square Mile as investigations got underway.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed, and it remains unclear exactly which part of the building he fell from.
A spokeswoman for the office tower, which houses several businesses and restaurants, said:
“We can confirm that an incident occurred this afternoon at one of the publicly accessible areas at 110 Bishopsgate.
“Emergency services are in attendance and we are awaiting further details from them.”
The building, one of the tallest in the capital, features a number of high-rise offices, as well as a popular rooftop bar and restaurant offering panoramic views of the city.
Police confirm no suspicious circumstances
A spokesperson for City of London Police confirmed that the man’s next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers.
“Their next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
“The death is being treated as non-suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
London ambulance service statement
The London Ambulance Service (LAS) confirmed that multiple emergency teams were dispatched to the scene.
“We were called at 2.07pm today (March 27) to reports of an incident on Bishopsgate, EC2N.
“We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic, a paramedic in a fast response car, and an incident response officer.
“The incident is still ongoing and we are working with our emergency services partners.”
Shaken onlookers witness the tragedy
Eyewitnesses in the busy commercial district were left in shock, with some reporting seeing police cordoning off the area and directing pedestrians away from the scene.
One worker from a nearby office building described the atmosphere as “deeply unsettling,” while another spoke of their disbelief at the sudden and tragic event.
A local café employee said:
“We saw a lot of police arrive really quickly, and then the ambulance crews followed. People were being moved away, and it was clear something very serious had happened.”
Investigation underway
While the incident is not being treated as suspicious, police and emergency services are continuing their inquiries into the circumstances of the fall.
The area around the building remained partially cordoned off on Thursday afternoon, with officers present to ensure public safety.
A coroner’s investigation is expected to be launched in due course.
