On Saturday, Justice Athar Minallah wrote in the case regarding reserved seats of Sunni Ittehad Council, an additional note.
The Sunni Ittehad Council filed a petition against the denial of reserved seats for women and minorities. It was filed in the national and provincial assemblies.
The case is being heard by a full court bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa. The bench includes several other justices, such as Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Muneeb Akhtar, Justice Yahya Afridi, and Justice Ayesha A. Malik, among others.
Moreover, Justice Minallah emphasized that the case is about the fundamental and constitutional rights of the people, not just the issue of reserved seats. He noted that the Supreme Court’s verdict was not intended to disqualify any party.
“It is not just the case of reserved seats but it is the case related to the fundamental and constitutional rights of the people,” wrote Justice Minallah in his additional note.
“Did the ECP fulfil its constitutional responsibility by providing level playing field to all the political parties,” asked Justice Minallah.
