There was a recent junior championship held at the Mushaf Sports Complex, where young athletes from various countries competed for titles in different age categories.
In this championship, Pakistan’s Hamza Khan was crowned U-19 squash champion at the Asian Juniors.
Last year, the reigning world junior champion won decisively against Malaysia’s third seed Harith Danial in the finals, with scores of 11-5, 2-10, and 11-9.
Now, despite losing, Danial hugged Khan after the match, showcasing his great sportsmanship.
Khan remained unbeaten throughout the championship. He defeated Hong Kong’s Lee Tin Hang in the preliminaries.
Conclusively, he sailed into Friday’s semi-finals against teammate M Ahmad and won a clean 11-6, 11-5, 11-0 to secure a spot in the final against Harith Danial.
The Championship spanned six days and included over 200 participants (boys and girls) from around a dozen countries, all competing for international titles.
