Islamabad: Tensions arise between CJ Qazi Faez Isa and PTI lawyer. There was a hearing held in the Supreme Court Pakistan about the formation of election tribunals, which are responsible for resolving disputes regarding elections.
An objection was raised to Chief Justice Isa for being part of the bench hearing the case, by Niazullah Niaza – the PTI Lawyer.
Chief Justice Isa remarked “Why not refer Niazullah Niazi’s case to the Pakistan Bar Council? Are we here to be insulted? Enough is enough,”
“We are aware of your political affiliations and will not tolerate continued contempt of the judiciary. This must end.”
He expressed frustration with Niazi’s objection and highlighted that the authority to form benches is held by the Practice and Procedure Committee, not by the Chief Justice alone.
He also suggested referring Niazi’s Conduct to the Pakistan Bar Council, which oversees the legal profession in Pakistan.
Niazi, referring to Imran Khan, stated “The one in jail objects that his election symbol was taken away.”
Chief Justice stated in response
“We provided video link facilities from jail, and no objections were raised at that time. Ali Zafar did not raise any objections in the intra-party election case either. This defamation of institutions must stop. Headlines in newspapers question how the bench was formed. The era of popular decisions is over; now, the committee has the authority to form benches.”
Meanwhile, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail added
“Courts do not operate based on public wishes.”
