PM Modi Asserts BJP as the Only Party Following Democratic Process
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a firm stand on Monday, declaring that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the only political party in India that adheres to democratic principles. His statement was made during the launch of the BJP’s national membership campaign, ‘Sangathan Parva, Sadasyata Abhiyan 2024,’ held at the party headquarters. The campaign aims to expand the party’s membership base nationwide.
A Dig at the Opposition
PM Modi’s remarks were a direct jab at the Opposition, highlighting the BJP’s commitment to democratic values in contrast to what he implied were undemocratic practices in other political parties. “This is the only political party in India that is following the democratic process while expanding its work, and continues to improve to live up to the expectations of the people,” he asserted.
The Prime Minister emphasized the long history of the BJP, tracing its roots back to the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, and underscored the party’s efforts to introduce a new political culture in India. He noted that many generations have invested their lives in the BJP, which has now become a significant force in Indian politics.
Launch of the Membership Campaign
The launch of the ‘Sangathan Parva, Sadasyata Abhiyan 2024’ marked the beginning of a new phase in the BJP’s efforts to strengthen its grassroots connections. PM Modi initiated the campaign by renewing his own membership, becoming the first member to join by giving a missed call to the designated number. This action was symbolic of the party’s embrace of modern technology to streamline its processes and engage with the masses.
The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of this membership drive, stating that it is not merely a ritual but an ideological and emotional movement. He emphasized that the campaign is not just about numbers but about expanding the BJP family and ensuring that the party remains true to its democratic values.
33% Reservation for Women
One of the significant announcements made by PM Modi during the launch was the commitment to implementing 33% reservation for women in Legislative Assemblies and Parliament. He called on BJP members to focus on including individuals who can help ensure the maximum number of women are elected as MLAs and MPs. This move is seen as a strategic effort to empower women and reinforce the BJP’s commitment to gender equality.
Recalling the Struggles and Successes
PM Modi became emotional as he recalled the struggles of BJP workers during the early days of the party, particularly during the time of the Jana Sangh. He shared anecdotes about how party members, including himself, painted the party symbol, the Lotus, on walls with the belief that it would one day bloom in the hearts of the people. He recounted the sacrifices made by BJP workers, some of whom were jailed for their activism.
The Prime Minister urged BJP members to make border villages a stronghold for the party, reinforcing the party’s focus on national security and rural development.
Support from Senior Leaders
Following PM Modi’s registration, other senior BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, also enrolled in the membership drive. Amit Shah praised the BJP’s democratic approach to membership and expressed confidence that the party would surpass its previous membership numbers, targeting over 10 crore members.
Shah also highlighted key achievements of the Modi government, such as the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, the abrogation of Article 370, and the development of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, positioning these milestones as integral to the BJP’s vision of a developed India.
BJP President JP Nadda emphasized the party’s commitment to democratic principles, noting that every member is required to renew their membership every six years. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh echoed these sentiments, acknowledging the erosion of public trust in political leaders but emphasizing PM Modi’s commitment to integrity and transparency.
A Nationwide Drive
The membership campaign is structured in phases, with the first phase concluding on September 25, followed by subsequent phases in October. The campaign will focus on door-to-door outreach, ensuring that the BJP’s message reaches every corner of the country.
As the BJP gears up for the 2024 general elections, the ‘Sangathan Parva, Sadasyata Abhiyan’ is not just about expanding the party’s base but reinforcing its commitment to democratic values, gender equality, and national development.
