On Monday, the President of Malawi stated: The aircraft that was carrying the Vice President of
Malawi Saulos Klaus Chilima along with nine others, went missing. The search to locate the aircraft is still going on.
At 9:17 AM, Vice President along with the nine others boarded the Defense Force aircraft.
The departure location was the Capital- Lilongwe. It was supposed to arrive at Mzuzu
International airport, in the country’s north, approximately at 10:02 AM but failed to arrive
there since the time it “went off radar”, as per the statement.
Mr. Chilima was traveling as a representative of the Government at the Burial of former
cabinet minister Ralph Kasambara who passed away three years ago, as mentioned in the
BBC
President Lazarus Chakwera was meant to leave for Bahamas to wrap up some work. But
upon receiving this news, he instantly canceled his travel to Bahamas and issued the order
of an urgent search and rescue operation to locate the aircraft to national and local
authorities, said by his office.
The search is still going on and the statement in regards of it have been issued that “All
efforts to make contact with the aircraft since it went off radar have failed thus far”
