The Islamabad High Court (IHC) orders the session court to decide within 10 days about the legal case of suspending the sentence of Imran Khan – founder of PTI and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Iddat case.
Along with this, IHC instructed the session court that within a month, the main appeal against their conviction should be decided.
On February 3, Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were convicted of marrying during Bushra Bibi’s iddat period ( a period when woman waits after her divorce or husband’s death) Both the couple were sentenced to 7 years in Jail and a fine of Rs.500,000 each.
They filed an appeal against their conviction. Their case was judged by Shahrukh Arjumand, who completed the hearing but just before the court’s announcement, he stepped down.
Which led the case to be transferred to Additional District and Session Judge (ADSJ) Mohammad Afzal Majoka.
Bushra Bibi’s lawyer filed the petition for her release on bail and suspension to Islamabad High Court (IHC) But there were some administrative objectives to it by the registrar’s office because they were also seeking similar relief in the sessions court.
A day ago, while hearing the arguments by Bibi’s lawyer regarding the petition, Justice Aurangzeb removed these objectives and remarked the reason behind Judge Arjumand’s rescue as “not justified”
The judge presided over a hearing today on Imran’s plea to send back the case from ADSJ Majoka to Judge Arjumand.
