Gaza City, May 24, 2024 – The current crisis in Gaza has attracted the attention of the international community and many have urged organizations and governments to find a way to end the conflict. Gaza has been a hotbed for conflict for several decades now, with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict being the central issue.
The conflict has created a humanitarian calamity in the Gaza Strip where citizens remain trapped in the middle of the war. Due to the siege by Israel and Egypt, the people of Gaza find it very hard to come and go or even get the necessary products like food, water and medical equipment. According to the preliminary data the United Nations has stated that the situation in Gaza remains in a critical stage at the brim of a total collapse.
The conflict has led to the loss of many lives, particularly women and children. As informed by the United Nations, over 2000 Palestinians have been killed and many more injured since the onset of the conflict. Some of the gross violations that have been observed during the conflict include the use of excessive force and attacks on civilian property including health facilities and schools.
The UN Security Council and the European Union have also expressed their condemnation of violence in the Gaza Strip and urged for cessation of hostilities and the resumption of dialogue. For instance, the International Committee of the Red Cross has called upon the two factions to observe the norms of international humanitarian law and refrain from using force.
All in all, one can conclude that the situation in the Gaza Strip can be described as a multifaceted problem that has no short-term solution. The United Nations or other international organisations must keep pushing both parties to negotiate and seek a non-violent solution to the war. The people of Gaza must have their right to live in peace and security respected and protected and the global society must ensure this is made to happen.
