New Delhi, May 24, 2024 – During the current no-confidence motion discussion in the Indian Parliament, the opposition leader Rahul Gandhi alleged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inciting violence in Manipur state. In Manipur, they have killed the life of India,” Mr. Gandhi declared, while BJP members exhibited their displeasure. They have killed India in Manipur.
The Congress party leader made the remarks as ethnic violence between the dominant Meiteis and tribals of Kuki community in Manipur has claimed more than 150 lives, displacing thousands of people since May. Prime Minister Narendra Modi only condemned the violence in public after a video of two women being stripped by a group of men went viral across the world.
Mr. Gandhi condemned the prime minister by saying, ‘For our prime minister, Manipur is not India.’ He also accused BJP of inciting the divide for political benefit because India is due to go to a general election early next year.
The BJP leaders, however, criticised Mr. Gandhi for trivialising India’s name and rubbishing the no-confidence motion as a publicity stunt. However, there are others who have criticised that despite the Prime Minister’s speech and special address to the nation, it was overshadowed by his silence and insensitive responses by the BJP.
The current ethnic conflicts in Manipur have made the need to have a strong leadership and united effort to bring change and restore stability and assistance to the sufferers. As the struggle for power increases the people of Manipur are still feeling the pinch as a result of the ongoing ethnic conflicts.
