Instead of the wrong numbers, the British PM, Rishi Sunak, called for a snap election in the UK on the 4th of July. It is predicted that the Tories will suffer a massive defeat and the Labor Party will emerge victorious.
Evidence of this can be seen in the chaotic state of their affairs, compounded further by great reverses at critical points like the visit of their Foreign Secretary David Cameron to Albania last week, who had to be recalled to London for a government meeting.
Some have regarded this as a masterly attempt to try to reassure what is left of the Conservative Party during such political turbulence. The party has more often been involved in one scandal or the other, and the Rwanda asylum seeker deportation policy issue is among the most challenging policy issues.
Moreover, the high inflation and cost-of-living crisis paint a bleak picture of the party’s economic management. Thus, Labour emphasizes the break from the Conservatives as the critical narrative of the election.
It will be the first election where Sunak will directly take on the voters since becoming prime minister. Therefore, he will have to assure the voters that his economic plan is working and that the party remains capable of effectively governing.
Currently, the Labour Party is led by Keir Starmer, and this party was likely to gain a lot more than the struggling Conservative Party in the election. The result of the election would determine the direction that the Conservative Party would take as well as the future of stable government in the United Kingdom.
