Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing the ruling party of tampering with the Constitution and reservation policies. Speaking at a public event, Pilot, who is currently in charge of the Congress’s affairs in Chhattisgarh, also commented on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s recent announcement that he plans to resign unless the public declares him “honest.”
Pilot’s remarks come amid heightened political tension ahead of several upcoming elections, including in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir, where the Congress is positioning itself as a key contender.
Criticism of Kejriwal’s Resignation Announcement
Addressing Arvind Kejriwal’s surprising declaration, Pilot said that it is ultimately up to the people of Delhi to decide who their Chief Minister will be. Kejriwal had earlier stated that he would step down from his post within two days unless the public declares him honest. Commenting on this development, Pilot remarked:
“It is their [the people of Delhi’s] decision whom they will announce as the Chief Minister. The Congress party is ready for every challenge… We will form the government in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir.”
While focusing on Congress’s own political goals, Pilot reaffirmed the party’s readiness to face the situation in Delhi, while keeping a watchful eye on Kejriwal’s ongoing battle.
Allegations of Constitutional Tampering and Reservation Policies
A significant portion of Pilot’s criticism was aimed at the BJP’s handling of constitutional issues and reservation policies. He expressed concern over what he described as the party’s efforts to alter the fundamental principles of governance and social justice.
“Reservation is given to the people. I am surprised to see the history. After tampering with the constitution and reservation recently, who asked why 400 MPs were needed in the Lok Sabha, the public has answered that further attacks will not work,” said Pilot.
Pilot’s comments suggest that he views the BJP’s actions as an attack on the rights of tribal and Dalit communities, particularly with regard to reservations, which are intended to ensure social and educational opportunities for historically marginalized groups.
“The time limit of the BJP, with which it has gathered votes, has expired. It is true that voices were raised from within the BJP to stop the tampering they wanted to do with the constitution, reservation, and the interests of the tribal Dalit people,” he added.
Standing Firm Against Constitutional Changes
Pilot reiterated that the Congress Party, along with its allies in the INDIA alliance, will not allow any alterations to the Constitution or reservation policies that could harm vulnerable communities. He affirmed that the alliance would remain steadfast in its opposition to such changes, emphasizing the importance of protecting democratic values and social justice:
“The public has put their mind in this Lok Sabha election, and the Congress Party INDIA alliance will stand firmly on this issue. We will not let any tampering happen at any cost,” Pilot declared.
Criticism of BJP Governance
In addition to the Constitution and reservation, Pilot also criticized the BJP’s performance in governance, pointing to failures in law and order, women’s safety, and general administration. According to him, the BJP government is facing internal dissent, and a “succession war” is brewing within the party ranks.
“Now the changed tone of the people of the ruling party that we are seeing is after June 4. When the results are out, now there is mutual agreement. Succession war is ready to start in BJP,” Pilot claimed.
He accused the BJP of making baseless allegations and focusing on political power struggles rather than addressing real issues on the ground.
“Government is running on crutches in Delhi, that is why they are continuously making allegations,” he said.
Call for Development and Governance
Pilot called on the BJP to prioritize development and effective governance rather than engaging in political infighting and baseless accusations. He urged the ruling party to correct its mistakes and focus on improving the lives of ordinary citizens:
“You have formed the government, now do development, do governance, correct the mistakes, listen to the voice of opposition, listen to the voice of the public, and work on the ground,” he emphasized.
Congress Ready for Political Challenges
As elections approach in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir, Sachin Pilot asserted that the Congress is fully prepared to take on any political challenge. He expressed confidence that the party would perform well in these states and ultimately form the government:
“Whatever political challenge comes, we will face it strongly. Elections are being held in every state like Haryana and Kashmir. We will form a government in both states,” he said.
Pilot also took a parting shot at the BJP’s governance, pointing out that in less than 10 months, the public’s trust in the party had eroded due to its failure to address key issues such as law and order, women’s oppression, and governance.
In conclusion, Sachin Pilot’s remarks underscore his belief that the BJP is faltering on multiple fronts, from tampering with constitutional principles to failing in governance. As the Congress prepares for upcoming electoral battles, Pilot made it clear that his party will stand firm against any attempt to undermine India’s democratic fabric.
