Pakistan has received appreciation from Germany for its fight against terrorism, particularly for the role of the Pakistan army in the stability of the country and the region. This acknowledgment was made when the COAS General Syed Asim Munir paid a visit to Germany in an official capacity.
While in Germany, General Munir was welcomed at the Federal Ministry of Defence by the Chief of Defence, General Carsten Breuer, where he received an Honour Guard from the German Armed Forces.
The COAS also had an opportunity to meet Lieutenant General Alfons Mais, Chief of the German Army; they also visited the Army Combat Training Centre, Gardelegen, where they discussed various aspects of the center and training provided to the German Army and other troops.
The German leadership appreciated the efforts of the Pakistan Army in confronting terrorism, stating that it has demonstrated significant progress in the war on terror. This recognition has once again highlighted the need for collective participation to counter this menace of terrorism and the role of the Pakistan Army in this regard.
The COAS also held meetings with Mr. Jens, the Foreign Policy and Security advisor to the Federal Chancellor, Mr. Tobias Linder, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Nils Hilmer, the Secretary of the Ministry of Defence. On these forums, various issues of mutual concern were addressed, such as the war on terrorism.
It is a very positive step as Germany, which is a global power, has finally recognized the role of the Pakistan Army in the fight against terrorism and the country’s cooperation in the restoration of regional and international peace.
The fact that the Chief of General Staff, General Munir, visited Germany shows that relations and cooperation between countries are strengthening in the fight against terrorism.
