WASHINGTON: US legislators on Tuesday discoursed the extinction of Father Stanislaus Lourduswamy, known as Father Stan Swamy, a recognized human rights activist who passed in control, guiding India to instruct an autonomous investigation into his detention, arrest, and extinction.
Three US spokespeople, conducted by Congressman Juan Vargas, have tabled an explanation in the House of Representatives naming for a self-sustaining investigation into the possibilities surrounding Father Stan’s arrest, detention, and death.
Instructed by Vargas, alongside Congressmen Jim McGovern and Andre Carson, the resolution votes matter over the blamed mishandling of anti-terrorism regulations against human rights promoters and political opponents. It completes a contemporary judgment by India’s Supreme Court to discontinue belligerent colonial-era treason rules and dubs on the Indian Parliament to make this moratorium enduring.
The resolution highlights that “freedom of expression is a fundamental human right, as stated in Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948, which protects the rights and freedoms of all individuals.”
“Father Stan devoted his life to empowering the marginalized. He tirelessly championed the rights of the Indigenous Adivasi people, mentored young community leaders, and pursued justice for various communities across India,” noted Vargas.
Vargas, a former Jesuit, unleashed his anguish over the situations Father Stan survived in captivity, including rejection of medical care. “I introduced this resolution to ensure that Father Stan’s dedication to justice and the greater good is remembered,” he expressed.
The resolution also underscores Father Stan’s roots in Viragalur, a village in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruchirappalli district, where he was enlightened by Jesuit missionaries from a premature age and started exploring theology in 1957. It mentions his consequential position in the Pathalgadi movement, a significant Adivasi movement that employs standard stone carving to familiarise Adivasi districts with their constitutional privileges.
