India is poised to take a central role in the global revolution in artificial intelligence (AI) and green energy, with both sectors expected to become major drivers of worldwide economic growth, according to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Speaking at a press conference ahead of the 16th Finance Commission meeting on Monday, Naidu emphasised India’s growing importance on the global stage, particularly in the context of its economic development and technological progress.
Naidu, the leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), noted that there is significant global interest in India’s growth trajectory, as demonstrated by the country’s prominent discussions at the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos earlier this year. “India is the pulling factor for global economic growth,” Naidu declared, underscoring the country’s critical role in shaping future global markets and innovations.
Drawing a comparison with India’s IT revolution in the 1990s, Naidu likened the current AI boom to the rise of information technology back in 1995. At that time, he was an active participant in the IT revolution, and he now sees AI as the “order of the day,” with applications expanding across every sector. “In 1995, it was information technology; in 2025, it is AI. I was part of it then, and I am part of it now, still in power,” Naidu said, referring to his ongoing influence in shaping India’s technological landscape.
AI is undoubtedly one of the most significant areas of focus for India in the coming decades. The country, with its burgeoning technology sector, is well-placed to tap into the potential of artificial intelligence, both in terms of its applications and economic impact. With rapid advancements in machine learning, automation, and data analytics, India’s tech sector is poised to be at the forefront of the AI revolution, creating new industries, businesses, and job opportunities. In this rapidly changing environment, India’s youth and technological talent pool stand to benefit greatly from increased investments in AI-driven innovation.
Naidu further highlighted that two major themes had dominated the discussions at Davos this year: AI and green energy. He specifically pointed out the growing importance of green hydrogen production and other sustainable energy initiatives as essential elements of the global transition to cleaner energy. This reflects an increasing global focus on combating climate change through green energy solutions, a shift that is expected to drive economic activity and innovation across sectors.
“As we look to reduce global warming and mitigate the effects of climate change, green energy and its downstream industries are becoming crucial,” Naidu said. His comments come amid a global push towards reducing carbon emissions and embracing sustainable energy solutions to address environmental challenges. India’s involvement in the development of green energy technologies, particularly green hydrogen, positions the country as a key player in this global effort.
Naidu, who has long been associated with India’s IT revolution, expressed his strong belief in India’s competitive advantage in the AI sector. As a nation with a rich history of technological innovation, India is well-placed to take a leadership role in AI, with both governmental and private sector initiatives driving the country’s technological capabilities forward.
The World Economic Forum (WEF) this year saw a marked increase in attention to emerging economies, with India’s technological advancements and environmental initiatives drawing significant interest from global leaders. India’s growing stature as a leader in both the technology and green energy sectors signals a new era of economic and technological leadership.
In addition to its role in AI, India’s potential to become a green energy powerhouse is evident in the government’s increasing emphasis on sustainable practices and renewable energy investments. The country’s commitment to addressing climate change, coupled with its technological expertise, makes it a key player in the ongoing global transition to greener, more sustainable practices.
As Naidu concluded his remarks, he reiterated India’s bright future on the global stage. “India has everything it needs to play a significant role in the AI revolution and the global green energy transformation,” he said, expressing confidence that the country will continue to attract international attention and investments in these crucial sectors.
With both AI and green energy positioning India as a major force in the global economy, the coming decade promises to be transformative for the country as it solidifies its leadership in these two rapidly evolving fields.
