Social media platforms are getting many objections from the government and the controller for providing unnecessary content that badly impacts children and young people.
As per reports by the Wall Street Journal on Monday, 3rd June, New York implements some policies to prohibit social media platforms from using some technical algorithm to manage content for youth without their parent’s permission after getting reference discussions from people on this affair.
The bill passed on this affair states that Social media platforms may not transmit messages at night without parents’ permission.
Social media platforms are at risk because they do not inform the public by providing information on human rights threats and visual damages.
New policies such as the UK’s Online Safety Act (2023) and the EU’s Digital Service Act (2023) are convincing platforms to raise awareness of these affairs, which affect companies’ structure and organizational hierarchy.
The government sued social media platforms like Meta, Facebook, and other famous ones for providing illegal content and impacting a lousy image of youth and the kids’ generation. In February, New York City Mayor Eric Adams claimed this.
