London-based consumer tech brand Nothing has officially launched the second edition of its Community Edition project, inviting global designers and enthusiasts to co-create the upcoming Nothing Phone (3a) Community Edition. The winning submission will get a £1,000 cash prize and a six-month collaboration with the Nothing team to refine and develop their design.
Participants have until 11am BST (3:30pm IST) on 23rd April to submit their entries. This initiative continues Nothing’s tradition of engaging its community in product development, following the success of the Nothing Phone (2a) Community Edition, which attracted over 1,000 creative entries from 47 countries. Given the brand’s growing popularity, an even higher turnout is expected this time around.
How to enter the nothing phone (3a) community project
The Nothing Community Edition 2.0 consists of five key stages, starting with submissions and ending with the launch of the co-created smartphone.
1. Submissions – Four Creative Components
Entrants can submit their designs across four key categories:
- Hardware Design: Developing a unique visual and structural aesthetic for Phone (3a).
- Accessory Design: Creating an exclusive collectible or accessory to accompany the Phone (3a) Community Edition.
- Software Design: Designing UI elements such as wallpapers, widgets, icon packs, and clock designs to complement the hardware aesthetics.
- Marketing Campaign: Crafting a creative proposal that includes key visuals, launch events, and promotional materials for the final product.
2. Community voting & judging
Once submissions close, Nothing Community users will be able to vote for their favourite designs. This allows the judging panel to gauge public preference before making their final selections.
3. Jury selection & winners announcement
The Nothing internal jury will review all entries and select the winning designs from each category. The winners will then be announced publicly.
4. Six-month collaboration
Over a period of six months, the winners will work closely with Nothing’s in-house team to bring their ideas to life. They will participate in workshops, design reviews, and development meetings to ensure their concept aligns with Nothing’s brand identity.
5. Product launch
The final Phone (3a) Community Edition will be revealed by the end of 2025, marking the completion of this co-creation project. The four winners will be invited to the launch event, celebrating their contributions to the special edition smartphone.
