May 24, 2024- Recently, a famous Hollywood actress, known as Scarlett Johansson, has claimed OpenAI, an AI firm, copied her voice for use in its new ChatGPT platform.
Johansson complained in the statement that Altman suggested her participation because of her performance in a movie where she portrayed an AI. Last September, Altman asked Johansson to record the present ChatGPT 4. 0 system, but she refused due to personal issues.
Nine months later, Johansson became aware of how similar OpenAI’s ‘Sky’ voice was to her. “When I heard the released demo, I was shocked, angered, and in disbelief that Mr. Altman would pursue a voice that sounded so eerily similar to mine that my closest friends and news outlets could not tell the difference,” Johansson said.
On the day of the ChatGPT 4, Altman published a cryptic post that only included the word “her.” the 0 demo release added fuel to the fire of Johansson’s anger because she thought that it referred to the movie in which she provided a voice to A.. Two days before the release of the demo in question, Altman tried to contact Johansson’s agent in an attempt to dissuade her but the system was already live.
OpenAI stopped using the voice in question, stating it did not derive from Scarlett Johansson’s voice and had been hired before contacting her. Johansson is not prone to believe these statements and has retained legal counsel to look into the matter. The incident raises questions concerning deep fakes and underlines the issues of opacity and legislation of personal identity in an environment dominated by AI.
