KARACHI: The International News reports that the Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) has abandoned the government’s explanation of national security hazards as the rationale for restricting Twitter.
The response popped up a day after the Ministry of Interior protected the months-long prohibition on X, reasoning that it showed a “threat to peace and national security.”
In its proclamation on Tuesday, the PPF articulated that “Even if the government’s concerns regarding national security and public safety were valid, they do not justify the complete closure of the platform without any clear timeline or process for when such a ban could be lifted.”
It also summoned the commands to control expressive sessions with stakeholders implicating the civil association club before deciding to deny the medium, which concerns millions of Pakistani users.
“We also urge X to engage with Pakistani stakeholders, including the civil society and state authorities, to address their concerns,” the declaration counted.
Individually, Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) President Afzal Butt and Secretary General Arshad Ansari accepted the Kenyan High Court’s judgment to grant recompense to the relative of Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif, who was massacred by police near Nairobi in Oct 2022.
“While no amount of compensation can alleviate the suffering of Arshad Sharif’s family and his countless followers, this verdict brings some solace and justice,” they expressed in a joint proclamation.
