Manhattan, June 22, 2024
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is an amazing and historic figure – he is the first prosecutor to bring criminal charges and convict a former U. S. president.
Before the actual trial, in a mock trial in May 2024, a New York jury convicted former President Donald Trump on all 34 charges of scheming to conceal illicit payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels in the run-up to the 2016 election.
Specifically, Bragg, a 50-year-old Harvard Law School graduate, became the district attorney of Manhattan in January 2022. Before joining Star, he has some experience in prosecuting public corruption as a federal prosecutor and in the New York state attorney general’s office.
While campaigning for the office, Bragg promised not to prosecute dismal crimes and requested lesser charges for some crimes. He also elaborated on the management of a 2018 case that shut down Trump’s surnamed foundation.
However, amid the criticisms from Trump and his allies that the case against the former president was political, Bragg has been adamant that he was performing his duties. Last weekend, he said to the reporters, “Our job is to follow the facts and the law without fear or favor, and that is what we did here.”
With the arrest of Trump, Bragg has made history himself and has deemed himself one of the top targets for political devastation by Trump and the former president’s supporters.
But the district attorney does not doubt the jury’s outcome, saying that the falsification of business records is one of the big concerns in Manhattan, calling itself the business center of the world.
As Bragg goes to testify before Congress about the case, he remains focused on protecting the rule of law and keeping public officials on any side of the political spectrum from running roughshod over their constituents.
