Pakistan, June 15, 2024
Pakistan has also secured a position of non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the term 2024-2025. Achievement of this status can be viewed as an important step in the further development of diplomacy in this country and its recognition as a major world power.
It gave Pakistan 129 votes in the General Assembly, more than any other country; its closest competitor, Norway, received 78 votes. The election was conducted on the 14th of June, 2024, and the voting was among the 192 member states.
The successful bid has also been believed to reflect Pakistan’s readiness and preparedness to play a role in multilateralism, as well as its obligation to ensure security in the South Asian region.
With this new membership being part and parcel of the UNSC, Pakistan will have the capacity to have a say in formulating these policies and in dealing with these pertinent issues. It has declared its intention to be loyal to the Charter of the United Nations and to cooperate with other member nations in facing the multifaceted problems of the contemporary world.
Pakistan got membership in the UNSC for the first time, which has had a long-standing impact on the country’s international recognition of its efforts to maintain international peace and security.
The country has been operational in many of the UN peace missions and has been influential in fostering multilateralism in various areas, including counter-terrorism and non-proliferation.
Pakistan’s membership in the UNSC will also afford it the chance to advance its foreign policy objectives and issues of importance to the country, such as the Kashmir and Afghan Issues. The government hopes to cooperate well with other member states to solve these problems and support a safer and more stable international environment.
