Exit polls suggest a strong showing for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), thereby making a big landslide win by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the country’s general election.
Nevertheless, the opposition doubts it because exit polls have been proved wrong in India before. The headquarters of the BJP is anticipating celebratory parties and has therefore already ordered flowers as well as sweets from confectioners.
On his social media account, after polls closed down, Narendra Modi posted victorious messages but did not mention anything about exit surveys in his postings- this led many people to believe he knew something they did not know.
Meanwhile, the opposition led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal watches over the outcome even in detention at Tihar jail where he resides following an arrest for alleged involvement in corruption back in March; hence, probably; this is from where he will get them once they announce.
Kejriwal’s arrest was a turning point for the election, uniting an otherwise split opposition like never before. The detention was claimed by the opposition as a move by the BJP to cow and debilitate them in this crucial year.
The observers pointed out that the unity of the opposition would be tried after the final results were announced. No one can predict the winner yet, but the BJP appears to be in control now.
