Following weeks of anti-government rallies, Kenyan President William Ruto sacked practically his entire cabinet, leaving just Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in their roles. After considering the performance of his cabinet and realizing the high standards held by the Kenyan people, Ruto made this announcement.
The president is currently holding lengthy talks to establish a new, inclusive government.
A contentious tax measure served as the catalyst for the political upheaval, which resulted in multiple fatalities and violent protests. At the end of June, Ruto withdrew the Finance Bill after realizing that prompt action was required.
“Even with the progress we’ve made, I’m acutely aware that the people of Kenya have very high expectations of me, and they believe that this administration can undertake the most extensive transformation in our nation’s history.”
Ruto said
“I will immediately engage in extensive consultations across different sectors and political formations, with the aim of setting up a broad-based government,” Ruto said.
In order to address corruption, reduce waste and redundancy in government, create jobs, and manage debt, he wants to install a new government that is equipped to carry out bold policies. Government operations will not be affected throughout this transition; additional measures will be disclosed when they become available.
