Police have handcuffed two ministers along with two other criminals for allegedly doing “black magic” on Maldives President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, according to media reports.
The ministers dealing with charges of magic are Fathimath Shamnaz Ali Saleem, the state minister for Environment, Climate Change, and Energy, her ex-husband Adam Rameez, a minister at the President’s Office, and two others.
Officers claimed the climate minister had been remanded under authority for a week of delayed inquiries without providing a description of her arrest in the shocking incident.
“There have been reports that Shamnaz was arrested for performing black magic on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu,” claimed the Sun, a local media outlet.
Notably, The Economic Times reported that “ Shamnaz and Rameez were known to have worked with Muizzu as members of the Male City Council when he was serving as the city’s mayor.
Police would never obvious nor reject the report and have rejected to connect any information about the causes for the alleged black sorcery performance.
Shamnaz conducted an essential post in a nation that stood on the front lines of climate issues. UN environment specialists warn that elevating seas could make the Maldives unsustainable by the end of the century.
Doing black magic is not criminal violence under the cabinet code in the Muslim- majority state, but it holds a six-month prison sentence under Shariah.
The public across the picturesque archipelago hurriedly tries their custom ceremonies, thinking they can conquer pleasures and curse rivals.
“Recently, a 62-year-old woman was hurt to death by three neighbors on Manadhoo in April 2023 after she was blamed for doing black magic practices,” the Mihaaru news site told last week, after a lengthy police inquiry.
It quoted police as saying that, “ they had failed to find any evidence the murder victim performed sorcery.”
In 2012, police searched down on a rival political march after blaming organizers for propelling a “cursed rooster” at officers assaulting their offices.
