Over the Baltic Sea, tensions between Russia and NATO intensified in the past days as both parties conducted a series of military maneuvers and diplomatic negotiations that gave rise to fears of an upcoming confrontation. It has been compounded by Russia’s continued military exercise involving more troops and weaponry to the western frontier.
In turn, NATO has upped its military forces in the region with multiple military maneuvers and increasing NATO troops in member countries of the Baltic. The alliance has acquired and expanded its fleet of warships and fighter jets in the Baltic by developing the navy and strengthening air control.
The situation in Ukraine has been worsened due to the unrest military operation between Russia and Ukraine in which Russia has initiated a war against Ukraine and occupied most of the cities and buildings.NATO has claimed Russia breached the UN charter and other norms of international law and urged it to stop hostilities and leave Ukraine.
The conflict has also been fueled by diplomatic relations where both the Russian Federation and NATO have been into a series of exchanges where the latter accused the former of provocation within the Baltic Sea region.
According to Russia, NATO has contributed to the situation and has demanded that the alliance pull out its military contingents from the area. NATO has responded to this by branding Russia as an aggressive country and has called on the government to stop the invasion of other countries’ jurisdictions and sovereignty.
The relations between the two countries remain strained, with both sides retaining the armed forces exercises and diplomatic activities, raising concerns about the prospect of war.
