On July 16 and 17, 2024, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) will observe a two-day public holiday in observance of Ashura, which falls on the ninth and tenth day of Muharram 1446 AH.
The State Bank of Pakistan affirmed in a statement released on Wednesday that “The State Bank of Pakistan will remain closed on July 16th and 17th, 2024 (Tuesday & Wednesday) being public holidays on the occasion of Ashura.”
The federal government’s decision to designate July 16 and 17 as public holidays in observance of Muharram 9 and 10 is consistent with his declaration.
In the Islamic calendar, Ashura is a momentous occasion that is marked by grief and memory. It honors the Prophet Muhammad’s grandson Imam Hussain ibn Ali’s martyrdom at the Battle of Karbala.
