A tragic event occurred on May 21, 2024, on Mount Everest, when a snow ridge became unstable and caused several climbers to get stuck. This mishap occurred while IFMGA guide Vinayak Malla recorded a team of climbers on video at the mountain’s summit.
Malla and his team summited Everest at 6:They aimed at starting their operations at midnight, but several discrepancies characterized their downfall. During the movement in this heavily traveled narrow ridge system, a cornice fell, and four climbers were in danger. Fortunately, they had safety ropes and could self-rescue on the cliff edge.
However, the fate of the two climbers is still uncertain as they are still missing. They demonstrate that the presence of many people on the mountain raises the disaster risk. The shooting of the cinematics shows several climbing parties on a busy ridge and on a snow ridge, which buckles under the pressure of the climbers.
